Joel Epstein (Principal) has more than 40 years of leadership experience in the executive search, entrepreneurial and financial service industries. He was a founding Principal of Waverly Partners, a national retained executive search firm with clients in the industrial/consumer durables manufacturing, financial services, higher education and non-profit sectors. Assignments included searches for CEO, COO, CFO, finance, legal, human resources and development positions. Joel’s search clients have included City of Toledo, Cooper Tire Company, Dana Corporation, HCR-ManorCare, Huntington Bank, La-Z-Boy, Metroparks of Toledo, Sunrise Windows, The Andersons, The Toledo Zoo, Toledo Area Humane Society, The University of Michigan, University of Toledo, United Way of Greater Toledo and Washington and Lee University.

Joel began his business career at Trustcorp, Inc., a regional bank holding company. He served as Executive Vice President of the holding company and President/CEO of the multi-billion dollar lead bank. During his 20 years at Trustcorp, Joel led initiatives to form mortgage banking, equipment leasing, and de novo banking subsidiaries. After leaving Trustcorp he led an Angel investing group, founding and managing several entrepreneurial ventures based on technology transfer from university and health care systems in such diverse fields as software development and publishing, photochemical research and development, medical imaging and medical testing.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toledo, and has served on the boards of a number of business, financial and non-profit/philanthropic organizations including Board of Trustees/Directors for the University of Toledo Foundation, Plastic Technologies, Inc., Spectra Group, Ltd., Robeco Clean Tech Private Equity Funds and the Valentine Theatre Foundation as well as the Advisory Board of FirstMerit Bank NW Ohio.


Brian Epstein (Principal)

Brian has more than 20 years in senior executive leadership roles within the business and philanthropic sectors.

Brian Epstein (Principal) has more than 20 years in senior executive leadership roles within the business and philanthropic sectors. His experience ranges from healthcare and financial services companies to software, start-ups and non-profits. Most recently, Brian formulated and served as CEO of a regional consulting agency assisting innovative start-ups which included medical devices, software, advanced materials, advanced manufacturing and others.

Brian initially spent 15 years in the financial industry which included being Principal, Trust Executive of The Trust Company of Toledo. In addition to the client relationship duties, Brian led the data system strategies; disaster recovery; technology system network outsourcing and management; marketing and product development and client fee analysis among others. He subsequently joined Fi-Tek, a financial software company, as the Director of Trust and Wealth Management Solutions. He strategized product and partnership development, managed client relationships, professional services consulting strategies and national sales initiatives. For ProMedica Health System, Brian led the successful development and deployment of its regional Accountable Care Organization.

Beyond his career, Brian is extremely dedicated to his community and providing for others. He has served on many non-profit boards and committees. Brian formulated and founded EPIC Toledo, a successful regional young professional organization engaging and inspiring the next generation. He has received the 2004 20 Under 40 Leadership Award and the 2007 Presidential Volunteer Service Award Gold Level & Lifetime Recipient recognition.

Brian has a proven track record in building partnerships and leading collaborations. His skills and experience include an in-depth knowledge of organizational lifecycles and structures, process improvement, sales, marketing, product development and commercial validation.

He earned a M.Ed. Degree in Human Behavior and Leadership Development from Plymouth State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Management from Albion College.
